Okay fiberista’s as I promised in last week’s post, here are my sweater WIPs.
I am limiting them to 3 for now because I personally work better when I don’t have too many choices. Don’t get me wrong, after last week’s purge, i have another 5 sweaters in the WIP bin. That is just SWEATERS…
Breath…Focus.
So I am breaking out the pragmatics for this goal of new sweaters and here are the top three:
This everyday sweater
This is a sweater I am making to replace my very very very all time favorite cardigan. It is a basic button front classic lines cardigan using some wool blend yarn I got at the annual big fiber destash sale in Black Mountain, NC. No pattern, I am just taking the old cardigan that was falling apart and recreating it using math and measurements. I am about halfway through making it. I am most eager to finish this one because I literally wore the prototype every winter day for 10 years.
This girly kitten sweater in cheap acrylic yarn.
I can hear the collective gasp already…yes this sweater is made from some of the softest acrylic yarn I have seen. I could totally spin something similar and have a nice luxury sweater. But honestly, this cardigan is also destined to be an everyday sweater. I find that bulky singles made from wool is not as hard wearing as I want this sweater to be. This is a toss it in the washer and dryer sweater. It is based on a very old Knitty pattern an is knit sideways. I am really just lacking a sleeve and a half plus finishing. Being a bulky knit, I can be done in an afternoon. I am going for the low hanging fruit here.
A nice juicy cabled sweater.
I have actually frogged this sweater back and starting over. My gauge was WAY off. I have a finn fleece that I am saving for a second version of this sweater. But in the mean time I intend to make the first version from mill spun yarn. I was doing this pattern, but I may revisit that selection just because I am not sure I am loving the style anymore. I love the Fine Fleece book because it shows each pattern in mill spun as well as hand spun yarn.
What Sweaters are you planning to tackle this year? Leave me some comment love or as always, shoot me an email, or join us in the fiber art collective to get some extra support to see you through.
I have a “surprise” coming to me soon! My favorite LYS in my old hometown has gone out of business. I contacted them, sent $100 and asked them to send me a pattern and yarn. All I told them was size and I gave them 5 color options. So I’m excited to see what my mailman will bring as my next WIP.
Oooooo! What a cool idea, although I am sorry to hear of your old LYS going out of biz.
