One of the things that has been languishing not just on my studio lis, but on my general business to do list, is making an operations manual. I know it seems like a bit of overkill for a creative type person, to outright make a manual of all the steps I go through to make my stuff, or run my business. It sounds so stuffy, so not full of flow and creativity.
Let’s say, I get in a car wreck and find myself in the hospital and heavily sedated for weeks. How will my business proceed? How will my family know what to do to step in and make sure all my hard work does not evaporate and go under in my absence? Or say, my business explodes and it is time to hire help. How do I 1. delineate the tasks that I can give up and the tasks I need to keep 2. minimize the training curve. This is why if you are making a business out of art and you hope that it will grow and want to ensure it will thrive, then a procedural manual is one of those things you need to have in place.
So yeah. That is all part of managing a studio into awesome. So while I am kind of fleshing it all out as I continue to sort and purge. I am really going to hold off on the actual writing part for when we are out of town for the holiday.
In the mean time, Check this out…
I have wrangled the needles and hooks into a nice organized system. I also did some MAJOR destashing. I have an insane number of needles and hooks ready for charity. Hey, if you know of one I should consider, hit me up. I am thinking like a woman’s shelter/prison craft program/at risk youth kind of thing.
