Here is how it usually goes down
There is some crazy overwhelming eat the frog task I am avoiding like filing sales tax, or doing inventory. It may or may not be on the to-do list. But regardless, it is almost always something that I have decided will take 5 times longer than it actually will. Mainly because I have built up this tax in my head. And out of fear, I do not schedule it.
As it looms heavy as that random thing I should be doing….I end up avoiding the studio.
When I began this challenge, my intent was to clean my room and make my studio more inviting to be in. I am finding that such a big part of my studio awesome challenge and the reasons why I have been avoiding this space has so much more to do with systems. Not just systems to organize my stuff and keep my space ready for project work, but things for me to organize my work flow. Clear the decks of all those dreaded tasks or at least the guilt surrounding those tasks, so I can get down to the work I really want to do…my art work. I need to eat that frog first thing in the morning.
I have mentioned that I have started using Asana to help mange my projects and to-do list. This app has a way to color code the work in a way that I can make sure I am having a balance of work and play time. And as I mentioned in Friday’s post, I laid out a scheduling plan—my mornings are for business, and my afternoons are for art. In Asana I am also able to schedule reoccurring tasks for things like those damn tax deadlines. So, this evening and tomorrow I will be looking at my weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual schedules. Looking at the regular tasks that need a firm schedule to take the pressure off my creative time.
