I give you permission to have a lot of yarn

Nov 11, 2015How to think like an artist0 comments

I don’t think I have ever met a crafter that did not have some form of guilt around the size of their stash.

I get it. Have a ton of yarn waiting for just the right project. I even have a stash of yarn I may never knit I refer to as my petting stash (Hey, I know I am not alone here…)

I am officially giving you permission to be okay with having a lot of great yarn stashed away for future unknown projects.

If you are stashing odd balls of awesome must have yarn here and there, chances are you are a right brained knitter like me.

You chose that yarn because you love it and know that the inspirations for what it will become will come, as opposed to yarn earmarked for a certain pattern. You are drawn to the color and textures more than the challenge of a pattern technique.

So here is a thought… How much paint do you think a painter needs? For creative knitters, yarn is the same thing. I personally love mixing yarns. Having a selection make sense. But if your stash provides you fuel for your creative fiber art inspirations (yes, I mean sweaters, socks, hats…it is all fiber art too), then lean into the idea of surrounding yourself with yarns that inspire your creativity, whether you use them now or later.

I promise this is not a plea to buy my yarn, but an invitation to lean into the possibilities and creative inspirations that random stash of lovlies provide for you (although I would be honored if my skeins inspires your art).

What if that inspiration calls you to finally own the title of fiber artist? What if that stash allowed you to realize your most important piece?

Fiberista, artists live with inspirations close at hand. Stash you love is important.

Release that guilt and go pet some yarn.

So, my question for you is what is the most precious skein in your stash? Leave me a comment below.

P.S. here is mine…
